O'Neil She was in her high-school times when she took part in the auditions, auditioned in the 3rd season of Canadian Idol within the early months of 2005. Her performance on the show impressed panel of judges and she was promoted to the 100th round. O'Neil was given high praise by the judges but suffered substantial losses during the Top 10 weeks and Top 9 of the Finals, when she fell to the bottom 3 and bottom 2 and bottom 2 respectively. They were stunned by the decision, and told the audience the fact that Melissa was the most talented contestant. In spite of consistently impressive performance from then onwards, O'Neil never again finished in the bottom three. She was the judge. Werner predicted, after two other breathtaking performances, that O'Neil would win in the Canadian Idol competition, as she would be the first woman and youngest ever to win the show, following the September 7, 2005 finals. O'Neil was contacted by Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin congratulating her on the success of Canadian Idol immediately.
